That was a close one! Sounds like you were very lucky.
Many years ago my day pack was slashed with a razor and all my valuables taken while we were on a packed tram in Prague. As a result I’m much more careful about not carrying stuff in one place.
Yikes! Glad nothing happened. We haven't had anything happen yet but I have noticed lately that I've been less cautious so thanks for the reminder. Unfortunately, a friend visiting us recently had her backpack stolen as she was getting into a cab in Lisbon. It all happened very quickly and there was nothing she could do.
I have to admit that I am now reassessing what I carry in my pockets and my travel backpack. I have gotten into the habit of traveling with anti-theft purses and sling bags, so hopefully those will continue to work well.
In Cape Town, someone took a small digital camera out of my sweater pocket. I felt it and saw someone hurrying away so I caught up to him and demanded he give it back. He apologized and gave it back to me.
Wow! That's some impressive situational awareness in action!
We have been very lucky in our previous travels, visiting Paris and Rome in the off-seasons. I knew about traveling with hidden money pouches, but this was all before the days of cell phones. It is obviously a whole new ball game out there.

Oh that's terrible!

Oh dang, that's rough.

Ugh close one. This is a fear of mine!

That's a surprisingly good outcome!
