Following up on my post last month about visiting all 50 states in the US, my husband and I are planning a trip next month that will get us both to 49 states. More on that later, but for now I’ll say that we are ridiculously excited.
After that, our 50th state will be Alaska. We don’t yet have any firm plans for visiting, just a lot of ideas. We’ve both read numerous articles about Alaska travel — cruises, train travel, road trips, and more — and right now the overwhelm is real.
Thus, I’ve decided to crowdsource this one.
For those of you who have visited the US’s largest state, I’d love to hear about your travels. Please share your advice, wisdom, ideas, and whatever else is on your mind.
Thank you very much.
My parents and brother did a train trip. Half way they rented a car and swore off trains. They found it very uncomfortable, crowded and terrible food. We met them in Alaska and took a cruise. We hiked, fished, took a helicopter ride to a glacier, bicycled and so much more. The wildlife was fantastic, eagles, otters, salmon, moose and bears. The cruise itself was wonderful. Bear in mind this was 25 years ago but a friend went 3 years ago and loved the cruise as well.
I haven’t been to Alaska yet either. My sister is there now on a cruise and her photos are beautiful. Definitely a bucket list place. I feel like it will present some packing challenges. My sister has rain boots, hiking boots, puffy coat, rain coat, etc. So much luggage. 😂😂
