I like to keep my packing lists on the computer. At the end of the trip, we note what wasn't used. The next time we have a similar needs trip, we're not starting from scratch - and taking less with us.
I've also rediscovered my affinity for Tom Bihn gear; while pricey, it's as good as I remember. Recently got a Handy Little Thing, and it's perfect for cords, bricks, etc. As well as the Small Travel Tray.
I am so intrigued by TB's gear but haven't bought anything yet. That said, this comment reminds me that I haven't fully explored all my zipper pouch options with what I have at home.
There is ALWAYS, always, the stuff you pack because of the "mights". I might want to .... I might need to.... it might be good to have...And so often those are the very things that add that extra pound here, pound there... and add unnecessary weight and bulk. How often do I return home with the knowledge that I never once needed or wanted and wished for those Mighty Objects? Every damn trip! Have I fully learned? Nope. Oh but I think more practice is necessary!
The last time we lugged two large suitcases and backpacks up and down the Paris metro steps to get from CDG to Montparnasse, we swore we would streamline. Recently we bought those very small cabin bags and that, plus a backpack, seems to work well, as long as it's not winter clothes. I'm also wrapping my head around wearing the same thing over and over and NOT bringing that dress or nice shoes, "just in case." It's definitely a process. Packing cubes help a lot, too, but the electronics thing is getting out of control.

I appreciate that you write about packing. It's such an important part of traveling.
Pete and I both do too. I realized that I need to empty every single travel pouch and start from scratch.
Always room for improvement; I keep a list in Apple notes that I refine after every trip

Like you, I keep running notes during every trip and refer to those as I prepare for the next one.

Same, girl, SAME.
