A little Easter-related anecdote:
When our children were young and we were still bound by their school calendars, Spring Break was important to us so we always tried to plan something fun. It was always the first week of April, and they usually had the Friday before that off too, so we knew we would have a solid eight days to plan around. Occasionally, Easter fell on one of those two weekends, which it did in 2013.
For those who know the ages of our offspring, yes, they were 12 and 14 during that spring break, and yes, the Easter Bunny still visited them. (And in the spirit of full confession, I’ll tell you that now, in 2025, they are 24 and 26, and the Easter Bunny put together a little something for both of them.)
Anyway, at some point in the planning of our trip — which we started by flying into Las Vegas for a week exploring state and national parks — we realized that the day after we arrived was Easter. So the Easter Bunny planned accordingly and slipped treats into my carry-on suitcase. (This was a useful experience for our Christmas in Hawaii a couple of years later.)
We woke up on Easter morning, the children got their goodies, and then we proceeded to move on with our plans to explore Vegas that day. Because nothing says Easter with children like casinos and day drinking, right? No lovely brunch or anything holiday-ish, just us exploring the Las Vegas Strip. To our credit, we did visit the M&M megastore and let the kiddos pick out their weight in bulk candy-coated chocolate.
Anyway, happy Easter to all who celebrate in some form or another. What are your plans today?
We had grandkiddos Easter Basket hunt early this year
And yes, Easter goodies are still given, but now the hidden Easter baskets are full of little gifts instead of candy, and we hide them for the grandkiddos
